Pre-existing conditions

Pre-existing condition means a condition for which any of the following are true prior to the effective date of a pet insurance policy or during a waiting period:

• A veterinarian provided medical advice regarding the condition; or
• The pet received previous treatment for the condition; or
• Based on information from verifiable sources, the pet had signs or symptoms directly related to the condition for which a claim is being made.

For instance, if a veterinarian diagnoses your pet is in need of a thorough dental cleaning and the medical records indicate this cleaning is recommended, dental tartar/periodontitis is considered pre-existing

Here’s another example: your pet is limping, but no diagnosis has been found. One to two months into the policy hip dysplasia is found and noted in the medical records by a licensed veterinarian. Hip dysplasia is considered pre-existing.
