“Mumbo-jumbo is [defined as] something that seems complex or mysterious, but really has no meaning or only pretends to make sense,” says Brynn, Nationwide member and pet parent to Mumbo Jumbo. This is something we at the Wacky Pet Names editorial desk connect with in a big way.
Like many of our wackiest names, the earliest origins of this fantastic ferret title also come with a little twist of irony.
“When I picked him up, Mumbo Jumbo was just a tiny little guy … and we were joking around about naming him ‘Shrimp.’ [My friend said] ‘He's too big to be Shrimp, he's more of jumbo shrimp size’ … and I thought it would be fantastic to name him Jumbo—I loved the irony of him being the runt … at some point, we had landed on the saying ‘this is a bunch of mumbo-jumbo’ and the rest was history.”
Brynn adds, “He has grown up to be the biggest ferret I have ever seen in my life, and sometimes I wonder if it was in spite of my naming.”
